This Year's Model Updates:

The MR2 Spyder rolls into 2002 with a new Formula One-style five-speed manual transmission. The only other change is that the yellow cloth interior has been discontinued.

Pros:
  • Well-balanced mid-engine design, scores high on the fun scale, awesome car to run hard on the track, affordability.
Cons:
  • Homely design, lack of cargo space, dated interior design, non-adjustable seats.

I have had my 2002 MR2 for five months. I bought it used with 7500 miles. It is like brand new. Enough of my bragging. The car is wonderful and fun. It has extraordinary handling. It is plenty fast to get in and out of trouble. I have had zero problems with the car. If you want a fun convertible.... buy an MR2. Be ready for lots of compliments and queries as to what it is.

Just tradefd my 2000 mr2 for a 2003 mr2 (due to ;leg injury) with the smt. Ilove the car. Where ever i go people seem to like it and it is often mistaken for a Boxster. Althought the storage space is limited everything else is great. The smt is fun, however the upshift buttons could have been made larger.

Real fun to drive. A big head turner no matter where you are. Pristine handling around curves. Good acceleration. Handles VERY well. A real blast to ride with top down. Great lil car to have around.

I looked at the S2000 before buying my MR2. I couldnt see spending almost $8000 more for a power top and cruise control (yeah, and more hp). I first looked at this car because of friends recommendations. This is SO much fun to drive and you get LOTS of looks!

  • Boy am I surprised ! - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

Bought the MR2 for my wife to drive, she wanted a fun little sports car. What an eye opening experience this car has proven to be! Ive had some fine handling cars over the years but the MR2 is at a different level than anything even close to its price. No rattles, the doors feel like they are carved from stone compared to a Miata, wind doesnt beat you to death when the top is down and you can drive the hell out of it and not draw any attention from the law. Its kind of a stealth Porsche.

  • Dream Car - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

This car is very responsive, fast and surprisingly comfortable. The top has a glass rear window with built-in defroster and does not require a boot cover. The only downside is the lack of trunk space. Overall, its cute, fun to drive and its a Toyota so its reliable. Id recommend this car to anyone who wants a reasonably prices sports car.

  • gas the curves - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

This car is the most fun to drive car Ive ever owned. Not meant for travel but around town I keep the foot on the floor from 0-speed limit. Has amazing acceleration for the engine size. With the rear engine it is so much fun to "gas the curves" because it makes the car track the curve plus gives me a little excitement in my every day run around town. No trunk space - no problem - buy everything new when you get there or take the Caddy!

  • Exactly What I expected - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

Anybody that bought this car and then complained about cargo space, automatic top etc. Just wasnt paying attention to what they were buying. Its great fun to drive, reliable, and the handling is awesome. You cant touch its performance and unique characteristics for half again as much money.

  • FUN - 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder

This car is very fun to drive, with good response and handling. It turns more heads than a Boxter because there are fewer on the streets. It also costs much less.
